Brother Printer Mfc 9120cn Drivers Install Update
This is a fine printer for a couple dozen pages every few days. Setup is easy it works fine as a color copier. Things to note about this is it's a Brother. I work with hundreds of printers day in and day out, maybe thousands in my life. This printer behaves just as I would expect from a Brother. The feed tray for the scanner isn't perfect or fast but it generally works when you carefully fill it. The cheap pickup rollers get a little glazed after a year and have occasional pick up problems especially if you run a dusty or an already printed page through.
Don't expect to get great color photos. There tends to be slight color inaccuracies and occasional very faint banding. Of course, none of the color problems are noticeable when printing charts, graphs, contact prints, text documents and forms.
So if you are looking for an affordable do it it all printer that does well enough for day to day business prints this is it! Brother has App for Android. I can tell you that this works great but only for a few specific use case scenarios.
If it could print PDFs or some sort of document files it would be worth another star. The Brother CN has very limited adjustment for making copies - you can't lighten it enough to get a clean copy of a newspaper article - something my old HP MFP handled fine. Normal computer print is OK, as it would be from most any laser printer, but the manual feed slot is poor.
It only folds out about an inch, so it won't support your paper; you have to hold each sheet until it feeds - very inconvenient. The first time I used manual feed, I experienced the problem that others have reported where the printer says it has a paper jam, even though it doesn't.
But, you go through a long process to reset the printer, only to have it repeat the error message. I sure wish I hadn't bought this turkey, but Brother has refused to let me return it after I identified all these issues.

The comments about eating the toner cartidges quickly are very true, as the process Brother uses to determine when a toner cart is near empty is terrible. However, there is a way to manually reset all the toner cartridge levels I found on another site, and have used several times. It almost doubles your toner cart life, see below. Repeat as needed for as many as you need to reset. This printer is a great value if you're looking for a light duty printer.
It's ideal for a home office or small office with a limited number of users. I replaced an Okidata printer with this one and the difference in construction and consequentlly weight is striking. But at less than half the price it's a great all-in-one. It's very quiest, doesn't generate a lot of heat, relatively small for an all-in-one and the price of replacement cartridges are better than most.
The control panel is extensive and intuitive which makes it fairly easy to use manually as a copier or fax. The biggest flaw is the Manual Feed slot which doesn't have a real tray and is basically designed to hand-feed a single sheet. In other words, you can't simply flip over a dozen or more printed sheets and place them on a tray for printing side 2.
So if you only have 1 or 2 people using it and print less than a thousand pages a month, I highly recommend it. And since I've only been using it for about a month, my evaluation may be conservative. One person found this helpful. I bought this printer to replace an inkjet all in one. After owning about six or seven inkjets over the years I had finally decided that color lasers had come down enough in price to make them affordable for home use.
I had been looking for some time, and was probably going to go with the HP. Then after reading the reviews on all the available models, I was impressed by the reputation that the Brother printers seemed to have. I've had the printer now for close to a month. Although I haven't used the fax people still use fax??
I've got 5 computers on my home network, and I believe it took me less than an hour to get them all connected and checked. The install was simple, although after the first install or two I realized that their Paperport software was unnecessary and quit installing it.
My favorite surprise capability was the scan to PC function that lets you pick a format. There is no preliminary setup from the computer, you just pick the machine's name from the list on the printer display and the scan appears in the appropriate format. Overall, I've had no negatives and would highly recommend this printer. I haven't had a paper jam, and admittedly, we are not high volume printers One high school student, a wife who does alot of volunteer work and myself.
It prints color pictures on plain paper good enough for us, scans well, and beats the hell out of all the problems we had with HP inkjet printers from connectivity, ink cost and problems with cartidges. No, I don't work for Brother It's just been a joy to have a printer I don't have to fix everytime wife or son wants to print something!!
The price and performance are pretty good, but in a business environment where you need to manage print supplies and recurring costs its a bit of a pain. The software does not give toner levels.
Either we are extremely lucky and deplete all the color at one time, or the color cartridges all have to be replaced even when even one runs empty.
Even though they say it is an LED, the quality is fine for us, but the lack of management features and certainly changing the entire color toner set is a real pain. As I work with more of the Brother printers I think the lack of driver software features has become a theme.
Quick and Easy to install and very compatible but lacking important features. It's a good value for the money. This has a much easier pull-out tray to replace toner rather than the epson's internal wheel which was dirty and confusing. The toner cartridges it comes with are loaded well and are not simply page cartriges that have hardly anything in them.
Other reviews will probably highlight other features such as fax, network printing and scanning, and what not. I will just say that this is a LED and not laser printer. That means inexpensive LEDs take place of lasers in the operation of this machine, which is a step forward for lower prices. Otherwise it acts just like a laser machine and uses toner, and not ink like inkjets do, as well as other bonuses.
However, the colors on the older machine were more vivid and the scanning mechanism better -- I could lay out a 3D object on the older machine like pin, or knife or large coin memorative that had 3D features and the Epson would capture most of it without flaw. I know it was not a digital camera, but it was useful for some artistic work like outlining certain things in a 1 to 1 life scale without going through extra steps of photographing them, getting the files in the computer and then printing them This machine however loses focus within millimeters of it's distance from the glass.
Otherwise, it's a good machine and great value for the money. It seems like a solid machine. Perhaps that's just my unit. In all though, it seems like a decent machine, and a great intro printer for a small in-home office that needs a machine that does everything. We now own two of these machines, I liked the home one so much I bought one for work. They do it all--print, copy and fax in black and white and in color, scan as images or text to the computer, and do it fast, quietly, and well.
Compared to our old printer, which did just that and no more, or our old copier which jammed every second paper, this machine is awesome. The print quality is excellent, laser quality and although we haven't had to replace toner yet, I am pretty sure the cost is lower than many others. Get fast answers from reviewers.
